STAGE 1: Idea Intiation
In this process, You think clearly about your idea. You give a shape to your idea, think about basics of the product you are going to make.
Here are a list of tips that will help you out:
- Write down what is your idea.
- What is it’s primary goal?
- Make a rough sketch of the image you imagine. You don’t have to be good at it, just a basic rough sketch.
- Try to gather necessary information about it. For example, How big or small the product will be?
This is all you need to move to next stage.
STAGE 2: Concept Design
Concept Design in product development process is the stage where the idea take shape. It’s a phase in product development process where we give shape to our idea, gather requirnments and visualise the upcoming product in better way.
In this process, we get clear picture of what is our idea, what problem it will solve and how will it happen?
Concept Design is not limited to any specific field of product, it is universal concept that can be applied to any idea.
In general terms, In concept design we will gather all requirnments, do some quick research and create a basic 3D/2D or even a detailed sketch of upcoming product.
STAGE 3: Final Design Process
Before discussing final design process, it is important to understand your requirnment or end product.
Few questions that can make this process easy:
- Are we going to manufacture this product right away?
- Do we first need just design of our product to do a market test via images and video?
- Do we need design for prototyping or manufacturing?
- How are we going to create prototype of model?
So what happens in this final design process? Quite simply, we design mathematically correct model of our concept design. We consider what is our end goal and design product as per requirnment. We keep every small details in check.
STAGE 4: Rapid Prototyping
Prototyping is where our design will come to life.
We make use of all the available tools to create a real world working model of our final design. We use all the basic manufacturing tools available to us including 3D printing to speed up the process.
This is where we get to test our product in real world.

STAGE 5: Feedback Loop and Completion
Once we can see, feel and test our product. It’s time for improvement.
A continous feedback and action on the feedback is must for outstanding product development. This must be done in stages and should be time bound for fast completion of goals related to product design.
